Introduction
This publicafion is the seventh in a series of pocketbook pilations on energy stafistics desigined to highlight the availability of data on variousother key statistics. Energy is central to the achievement of the 2030 o Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climatemeasurement of progressthereby assisting the fomulation of policygoals.
The information in this publication is primarily based on the energy datacollection carriedl out by the Energy Statistics Secfion of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). The data are available in the 2021 editions of the three annual UNSD publications that present energy clata in basic indicator Energy Statisfics Yearbookthe Energy Balancesand the Electricity Profiles formatsas well as fomats that show a more cletailedyet numiber-hecvy.picture of prodluctiontradefransformation and consumption of energy products in more fhan 200 countries and territories.
The present publication aims af providing adlditional information byhighighting key inaicators and using different visualizations to also show developmentsdependencies and distributions in a way that standlardclata tobles cannot convey.

FACTS AND FIGURES
World total energy supply (TES) was 612.1 EJ in 2021increasing by 5.5% pared to2020The increase affected almost all fhe regions but was most intense in Lofin America and the Caribbean (7.1%) and Europe (7.0%]. In ChinaTES increase belween 2020 and2021 was equal to 8.7 EJ (6.2%).
The Asian share of TES was more than half of the world tolal in 2021 (51.0%] with China alone accounting for 24.3% of the world TEs. Despile the significant resurgence ofdropping from 35.3% in 1990 to 17.7% in 2021.
Intemalional bunkers were equol to 12.9 EJ in 2021 (coresponding to 2.1% of world TES).showing an increase pored to 2020 (4.9%) but remaining well below the levelsreached before the pandemic.
